5 Reasons I want the Sony FS7

Since it was released the Sony FS7 has been a very highly regarded cinema grade camera. Everyone from influential YouTubers to professional directors of photography, the camera is being heavily used. The camera comes in at a very low price point compared to it's competitors, and with more features. So here are the top 5 reasons that your next camera should be a Sony FS7.

1.) Price Point

The Sony FS7 is not a very expensive camera. As a matter of fact it's price point is it's biggest draw! Coming in at a $7,999, the FS7 places itself nicely in a very competitive market. With the nearest competition to the FS7 being Sony's own cameras, mainly the baby brother FS5 and the older brother F55, Sony starts to build a very strong lead.

2.) Feature Set

This one goes right along with the price point. For the features this camera has included ready-to-go after opening the box, is something not traditionally seen in the camera community. Here are my three favorite features.

  1. Internal 4K Recording - Record in future proof resolution. Technology is improving and consumers are demanding better content. Give them that content when the competitors don't. (wink wink Canon)
  2. Built in ND Filters - Matte boxes are huge and unweidly. Screw on filters are unreliable and cheaply made. Built in NDs give you professional control of your exposure.
  3. Internal Audio - WHY IS THIS NOT STANDARD ON ALL CAMERAS. This camera comes standard with solid internal audio via well secured XLR ports. John from TLD even uses the cameras internal audio as a recorder, without even using the video!

3.) Slow Motion

Who doesn't love slow motion. This camera can shoot slow motion in 4k resolution giving you incredible editing power, and new ways to capture every day moments. What's better? The championship winning shot at full speed? Or the championship winning shot in all its slow motion, detailed glory?

4.) The Sony Family

Sony has an incredible line of cameras all the way from consumer level mirror-less to the creme-de-la-creme of cinema cameras. Each camera plays really nicely with one another giving you many many options to grow, and support your cameras. From the $3000 A7s or A7r2 all the way up to the $30,000 Sony F55,

5.) Professional Recommendations

Today's world is all about online content. And in the camera community just having the content is not enough. It has to look good. No not good, great. I am a very heavy online viewer. I follow lots and lots of YouTube channels. Most of them use two different cameras. The Sony FS7 or the RED Dragon. Now the RED Dragon is $50k. So that's not even competition, that's a luxury. It's the Rolls Royce of cameras. The FS7 on the other hand is being widely accepted as the new standard of what footage should look like. All of these major Tech YouTubers have adopted the FS7. I guarantee you have seen more than one video from their channels.

Not only are prominent YouTubers using this camera but so are prominent professionals. Philip Bloom, one of the most sought after Directors of Photography uses this camera. He just filmed an entire TV series on it. This series, The Wonderlist on CNN, is dedicated to showing the world in the best, most beautiful quality possible, and CNN and Philip Bloom chose this camera. If that isn't good enough, then I don't know what is. You only need to watch the first couple minutes of test footage from his review to understand.

So there you have it. I really want this camera. And at some point I am going to get it. It may be this year, it may be in a couple years. But unless something comes out that absolutely blows me away, this will be the camera that I am destined to get. I was really excited the entire time that I was writing this, and I can not wait to get my hands on this camera.

For those of you who read this and the information went way over your head, I apologize, next time I'll make sure that everybody knows what I am talking about!

Till Next Time,
